Google Pixel production may move from Vietnam to India as the company wants to diversify the supply chain

According to a report, Google Pixel smartphone production can be transferred from Vietnam to India. Google Parent Alphabet has interacted with its manufacturing partners in India to produce more Google Pixel smartphones in the country. This is expected to accelerate Google’s plans to increase manufacturing in India over the next few years. Like Apple, this firm is taking efforts to reduce the impact from the tariff declared earlier this month by US President Donald Trump earlier this month.

Alphabet said in conversation with Dixon, Foxconn

Citing two officers, A Report The Economic Times states that the alphabet made a round of interaction with Foxconn and Dixon earlier this month, as the company wants to transfer a part of Google Pixel smartphone manufacturing to India. Google is also said to have said that instead of importing the source components such as fingerprint scanners, batteries and chargers from its partners, instead of importing them.

According to the publication, more than 45,000 Google Pixel smartphones are already manufactured by Google’s manufacturing partners every month, but most of these handsets are mainly sold in the country. The company began manufacturing its smartphone in India in August 2024, which started from Pixel 8.

Google was already planning to shift Google Pixel production to India, as per the report, but it appears that the company is ready to accelerate its plans. Once the production of Google Pixel smartphones in the country has increased, Google has planned to send them to America just like Apple.

The company’s dialogue with Dixon and Foxconn was in response to US President Donald Trump’s tariff, which was declared on China (up to 145 percent), Vietnam (46 percent), and India (26 percent) and many other countries. The US has stopped these tariffs for most countries except China for a period of 90 days.

Currently it is not clear how much Google Pixel smartphones will produce in India, as part of Google’s effort to reduce the impact of tariffs on China and Vietnam. If the company’s partners components the source locally, it can also be at the cost of leaving the smartphone in the future.
