“Hindus targeted, local police passive and absent”

The report of an inquiry committee constituted by the Calcutta High Court said that the ruling Trinamool Congress of Bengal was involved in violence in Murshidabad. The report stated that the attacks during the passage of the Waqf Amendment Bill, a large political line, were directed to the Hindu and when people called for help, the police failed to respond, the report said in the report.

The report also highlighted indiscriminate arson and the untiring destruction of shops and malls.

The main attack took place on Friday, April 11 after 2.30 pm, when “local councilor Mehboob Alam came with miscreants”. The report said that residents of Samserganj, Hijltla, Shulitala, Degree wore their face.

The attackers had cut the water connection so that the fire could not be extinguished. 113 houses were the worst affected in Betbona village, the report also said.

The report states that the houses are destroyed and “will not be living without complete construction … the women of the village are afraid and take shelter with their relatives.”

The report said that on April 12, a person from a Hindu family and his son were killed by his Muslim neighbors. The subsequent violence erased shops and markets in the area.

Grocery stores, hardware shops, electrical and textile stores were destroyed. So there were temples – all this happened within the radius of 300 meters of the local porse station.

Twenty -eight shops were affected at Ghospara in Murshidabad. The report said that a shopping mall-style market was looted and closed.
The investigation team consisted of members of the National Human Rights Commission, State Legal Services Authority and Judicial Services. The report was presented before a division bench of the High Court today.

The panel visited the villages and spoke to the victims of violence.
