IAS officer accused women employees in Nagaland for ‘sexual harassment’

Kohima:

Nagaland Police has formed a special investigation team (SIT) and an IAS officer has filed an FIR on Saturday to investigate allegations of sexual and mental harassment of several female employees of Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN) by an IAS officer, officials said on Saturday.

A senior official said that NGINYEIH KONYAK, Chairman of the Nagaland State Women’s Commission (NSCW), presented a written complaint to the Director General of Police on March 17 after oral information by IDAN Chairman Abu Metha against IAS officer on 27 February.

Mita is also an advisor to Chief Minister NeePhu Rio.

The accused IAS officer Idan is the joint secretary of Kohima. However, the IAS officer has denied the allegations made by women employees.

Before submitting a written complaint to DGP, NSCW recorded statements of the victim women, who are also working in the Idan.

Many women working in Idan have accused the IAS officer of demanding physical enjoyment to increase salary and other benefits.

According to the provisions of the Indian Municipal Security Code (BNSS), after receiving a complaint from Police Headquarters NSCW, a preliminary inquiry was launched by a woman officer of Deputy Superintendent of Police on 25 March.

The lady officer conducted a preliminary inquiry and submitted the report to the DGP on 1 April.

The official said that the report of Lady Officer Prima Feshi revealed the Commission for a cognitive offense of sexual harassment under sections 75 and 79 of the Indian Nai Code (BNS), in which a thorough criminal investigation was warned and recommended to further investigate the complete boundary and truth of the allegations.

The government formed an SIT (Special Investigation Team) under the leadership of a senior IPS officer for a thorough investigation of the complaint. In addition, on 5 April, four officers were also co-died in SIT. The case is under investigation, and the police team is looking at all aspects of the allegations.

On 4 April, the IAS officer was relieved of his official duties in Idan.

Meanwhile, in 2021, the same IAS officer, while Nokalak was posted as Deputy Commissioner of the district, was booked for alleged molestation of two young girls, who were engaged as a bail servant at his official residence.

After a thorough and detailed investigation, a charge sheet in the case was filed in the court of a special judge under the POCSO Act in Tunsang on December 2, 2021.

After passing the charge sheet, the court took cognizance of the allegations and started the trial. According to the information available with the police, since then, the case has been subject to testing in Tunsang, and 34 out of 50 prosecution witnesses have been removed in the immediate case.
