Muzaffarpur:
Officials said forty coaches of foreign liquor worth Rs 10 lakh were recovered in Muzaffarpur district on Thursday evening, said that the driver of the vehicle had been arrested.
The incident took place in Sadatpur under Kanti Police Station area. Bihar has been a dry state since 2016, when the Nitish Kumar government implemented the total prohibition on the sale and consumption of liquor.
According to Excise Inspector Deepak Kumar, the transport of liquor bottles came to light on the basis of tip-off. He also said that she was carrying bottles from Siliguri in West Bengal.
“After the information, a raid was conducted in Sadatpur and a consignment of 40 bottles was found inside a secret basement built in the roof of the ambulance,” Mr. Kumar said.
During interrogation, Mr. Kumar said, the driver said that the consignment was to be delivered till late night. “The ambulance driver said he had brought alcohol in the same way before Siliguri,” he said.
The accused has named two liquor traders in the state, Mr. Kumar said. “A discovery is to arrest them,” he said.
