New Delhi:
A fresh start BJP-AIADMK alliance in Tamil Nadu – announced Friday evening by Home Minister What ShahWith former chief minister Edappi’s Palaniswami From his side – East gives a premiere political platform to the East before next year’s state election, an established cadre and voter base.
How effective that platform will be – the ruling DMK -Congress Alliance in the 2021 Assembly enjoyed the victory difference and enjoyed the 2024 Lok Sabha elections – especially not clear, because the BJP has historically fought in a state that rejects the brand of its muscle of nationalism.
But, and perhaps more importantly, it also promotes the BJP in the Rajya Sabha, as it can now rely on four AIADMK MPs and it gives it a mathematical edge in the upper house and, in detail, by strangling the Parliament.
The BJP -led coalitions already enjoy a cruel majority in the Lok Sabha and are now ready to control the Rajya Sabha, which means the passage of the bills – especially controversial -like ‘One Nation, One Election’ bill required in the next Parliament session – should be very easy in the next Parliament session.
In fact, sources have given NDTV ‘One Nation, One Election’ Bill – a major initiative of PM Modi – priority through Parliament, priority, after changes in Waqf laws, it is a priority.
BJP’s Rajya Sabha Majority
The total strength of the Rajya Sabha is 245, out of which nine seats are vacant. This means that the effective power is only 236 and the majority mark is 119, which the BJP can now clarify.
Apart from four current AIADMK MPs – CV Shanmugam, M Thambidurai, N Chandrasegharan, and R Dharmar – BJP -led ruling alliance will be 123 MPs.
It can go to 124 because the term of an Angal Ramdos of a regional Tamil party, PMK ends in July. And, based on the current meakup of the assembly, AIADMK must also be able to take this seat, carrying his tally to five in the Rajya Sabha.
Meanwhile, the BJP may also rely on the support of seven other MPs – six nominees and one independent. Therefore, the party -led NDA has an effective strength of 131.
Can the number be higher?
One seat is vacant from Andhra Pradesh, which was with the YSR Congress Party of former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy. It will now go to the ruling Telugu Desam Party of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, which is a major ally, and hence in favor of the NDA of the House.
Similarly, four seats are vacant for enrolled MPs and pics for these seats will be almost certainly sides with BJP. And then four are vacant from Jammu and Kashmir.
Elections for those seats have been delayed, but when held, the BJP will expect to take at least one seat given to 29 MLAs in a 90 -seat house. Shri Modi’s party can also get two.
This means that the BJP can count 141 seats in the 245-member house and for the first time since 2014, the party-led alliance can enjoy a clear majority in the upper house.
In order to emphasize additional, the BJP can also rely on issues-based votes from non-composed parties.
For example, to clean the Waqf (Amendment) Bill through the Rajya Sabha, the BJP can rely on personal votes from Odisha’s BJD and YSR Congress Party, each of which has seven MPs and any of whom directed their members to vote in a special way.
