India is now the leading smartphone exporter for America, overtakes China: Report

The Market Research firm said that India have topped the second quarter (Q2) of 2025 as the leading manufacturing center for smartphones sold in the US. The rise of the subcontinent comes as trade uncertainty between the US and China, and to avoid the disruption of the supply chain, manufacturers begin to adopt the ‘China Plus one’ policy. This is an important achievement for the country, as the present government is encouraging businesses to “create” and gather in India.

Made-in-India smartphones are important jump witnesses

according to a Report The total volume of smartphones being manufactured in India in 2024 increased by market research firm Canalis, in Q2 2025, in the same period. This growth has brought 44 percent of the part of the country’s smartphone shipment in the US, which is above 13 percent in Q2 2024. The jump has reached the top position as the major construction hub for the US.

In Q2 2024, China used a 61 percent stake in the US smartphone shipment, which has been half in the same quarter of this year, which has fallen by 25 percent. The research firm said that a large part of this decline has been raised by India. This is because smartphone makers have become more careful than the growing tariff uncertainties and business challenges between the US and China. The smartphone market is watching a supply chain rehabilitation, where companies have started looking outside China after the ‘China Plus One’ policy.

However, most of India’s benefits can be attributed to the supply chain change of Apple from China to India, as the company started manufacturing the iPhone Pro model in the subcontinent. The report said that Apple has increased its production capacity in India as part of the ‘China Plus One’ strategy over the years. It has also dedicated most of its export capabilities in India to supply products in the US. However, the Cupertino company still depends on China for the supply of the scale required for the Pro model in the US. According to the report, in Q2 2025, the iPhone variants in the US increased to 13.3 million units from 11 percent year-by-year (YOY).

Apart from Apple, Samsung and Motorola have also started assembly smartphones in India which are sold in the US. Samsung’s overall mobile shipment in the US saw an increase of 38 percent YOY, which increased to 8.3 million units. Meanwhile, Motorola Q2 in 2025 only 2 percent yoy to 3.2 million units.

After India, Vietnam is the second largest manufacturing center for smartphone shipment for the United States, which maintains its position since Q2 2024. In Q2 2025, Vietnam’s share from 24 percent to 30 percent last year. It remains mainly a manufacturing center for Samsung handsets.
