United Nations Secretary -General Antonio Guterres on Saturday welcomed “all efforts to reduce the struggle”, as India and Pakistan agreed to the immediate ceasefire.
“We are monitoring, but we welcome all efforts to reduce the struggle,” General Secretary’s Deputy Spokesman Farhan Haq told PTI here.
India and Pakistan extended the American-Brokeded ceasefire, dangerously ongoing struggle, a few hours after attacking each other’s military facilities.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that India and Pakistan had agreed to “complete and immediate” ceasefire after the “long night” of the intermediaries held by Washington.
“After a long night of the intermediary conversation by the United States, I am happy to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a complete and immediate ceasefire. Congratulations to the two countries to use general knowledge and great intelligence. Thanks for drawing your attention on the matter,” Trump said in a post on truth social.
State Secretary Marco Rubio said that in the last 48 hours, Vice President JD Vance and he joined with senior Indian and Pakistani officials, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Shahbaz Sharif, Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Army employees Asim Munir, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Asim Malik.”
He said, “I am happy to announce the governments of India and Pakistan that they have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to start a conversation on a broad set of issues on a neutral site,” he said.
Rubio said, “We appreciate Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif, who hear their intellect, wisdom and states in choosing the path of peace.”
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said in a social media post, “India and Pakistan today have done an understanding on the stay of firing and military action.”
India came to avenge the Pahalgam attack a few days after operating India’s Operation Sindoor to operate nine terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir. Since the operation, Pakistan targeted various Indian military establishments without success.
