India smartphone shipment Q1 2025 fell 6 percent yoy, apple post highest growth: IDC

According to a new report by the International Data Corporation (IDC), India’s smartphone market experienced a 5.5 percent year-old decline in shipment in Q1 2025. This recession has been held responsible for weak consumer demand and surplus inventory since the last quarter. Despite the overall market contraction, Apple stood with the highest 23 yoy growth in shipment, leading to a position between the top five smartphone brands in India. Vivo topped the 19.7 percent market share in the first quarter. Samsung came in second place, followed by Oppo.

According to IDC’s quarterly mobile phone tracker worldwide ReportIndia’s smartphone market sent 32 million smartphones in the period from January to March this year, declining 5.5 percent. It marks the decline in the second consecutive quarter in shipment. Weak consumer demand and surplus inventory from the previous quarter are considered major challenges for brands.

Oppo in India’s smartphone market in Vivo, Samsung, Q1, 2025

Vivo took a large part of India’s smartphone shipment and maintained its top position in Q1 with a market share of 19.7 percent. The Chinese brand recorded an increase of 14.6 percent YOY. Samsung came second with 16.4 percent Marketsare. Oppo was third with 12 percent market share and 11.9 percent YOY growth. Realme captured fourth place with 10.6 percent market share and 2.2 percent yoy development.

Apple saw the growth of the strongest YOY among the top five smartphone brands in the first quarter, with an increase of 23 percent and recorded three million units in the first quarter. The IDC noted that the iPhone 16 led the pack, leading to 4 percent of the total smartphone shipment in India during this period. The iPhone manufacturer caught 9.5 percent market share.

Xiaomi finished sixth as the brand faced a 42 percent decline in shipment in the 2025 January-March quarter. This increased the market share of the company from 12.8 percent to 7.8 percent in the same period last year.

Motorola, Poco, OnePlus, and Iku took the seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th places respectively. According to IDC, Vivo, Samsung and Oppo captured their positions since the last quarter. Realme overtook Xiaomi to claim fourth, which is inspired by the strong performance of the Realme 14 series, Narzo 80 series and P3 series. There is nothing, the highest growth was recorded in total, followed by Q1 2025 closely by Google and Motorola.

The IDC reduces the growth of low single-papers in smartphone shipments for 2025 due to the ongoing increase in average sales prices (ASPS).
