According to Canalis, in the April-June period (Q2) in 2025, India’s smartphone shipment increased by 7 percent year-on-year (YOY). The rebound was operated by a wave of new launch after a vigilant first quarter, where vendors were held back due to elevated inventory levels. Vivo topped the domestic smartphone shipment with a 21 percent market share. Samsung came in second place, followed by Oppo. Xiaomi and Realme captured the fourth and fifth positions.

According to the latest canalis research report, Smartphone shipment reached India This year Q2 recorded 39.0 million units, 7 percent YOY growth from the same period last year. Vikas was fuel by launching new smartphone and a restrained Q1 with high inventory.

Vivo captured 21 percent market share in Q2 this year with a shipment of 8.1 million units in India’s smartphone market. Samsung chased with 6.2 million units and 16 percent market share.

Oppo finished third with a shipment of 5 million units, crossing Xiaomi, with 5 million also sent. Both Oppo and Xiaomi got 13 percent market share. Realme is fifth in 3.6 million units of shipping. The Chinese brand received 9 percent market share in the second quarter.

Canalis noted that Vivo’s V50 series saw a strong demand in Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities in Q2. Meanwhile, the Vivo Y-series maintained speed into small towns and semi-urban areas. The T-series also obtained land online, supported by an extended product lineup.

The report said that Oppo’s growth from the Oppo A5 series was inspired by strong offline speed and online traction through the Oppo K13 series. Canalis says that Samsung offered EMI options to capitalize on its financing power in the mid-drawmium segment, especially for the Galaxy A36 and the Galaxy A56.

According to Canalis, Xiaomi, despite a year-on-year fall, gained some speed in Q2 with Redmi 14C 5G and Redmi A5. The launch of the Redmi Note 14 series also promoted the growth. Realme also saw a damp year after year, but its offline traction was operated by models like Realme C73, Realme C75 and Realme 14X.

Apple finished a sixth position, with the iPhone 16 lineup more than 55 percent of its shipment. However, the report stated that the iPhone 16E saw a decline in interest. Motorola stood at seventh place, while anything notable has seen an increase of 229 percent yoy. Infinix overtook Tecno to become the top brand of transition to India, contributing 45 percent of the group’s 1.8 million shipments.

“With limited biological demand, H2 2025 will have more on channel execution than the launch of India’s smartphone products in 2025,” said Canalis chief analyst Saniam Chauosia said. The Market Research firm recorded a slight decline for 2025 throughout the year, “as the challenges of structural demand persist”.
