India suspends the Indus Water Treaty, closes the attic border in a strong response to Pakistan

New Delhi:

Cabinet Committee on CCS-Cabinet Committee-The country’s highest decision-making body on national security has taken some strict and punished measures against Pakistan on “Linkes from across the border”, which has been exposed to an investigation into a disgusting terrorist attack in Pahgam in Jammu and Kashmir, including 26 people, including a foreign national.

The Indus Waters is the most boldest step to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan. With this, water supply from the Indus River and its distribution – Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Beas and Sutlej will be stopped. These rivers are water supply for Pakistan and affect millions of people in that country.

The Indus Water Treaty was signed on 19 September 1960. The agreement was signed between India and Pakistan on the agreement. In 1965, 1971 and 1999, that treaty between India and Pakistan faced three wars, but now it has been suspended indefinitely.

Announcing the remedy, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said, “CCS was brought out in briefing, linkage from across the terrorist attack. The attack was noted that the attack came in view of its stable progress for successful holding and economic development and development in the center area.”

He says that “Recognizing the seriousness of this terrorist attack, CCS decided on the following measures:”

  1. The Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 will be held with immediate effect, until Pakistan reliably and irreversible ends its support for cross -border terrorism.
  2. The integrated check post Attari-Vagah limit will be closed with immediate effect. Those who have crossed with valid support can return by that route before 01 May 2025.
  3. Pakistani citizens will not be allowed to travel to India under the SAARC Visa Rebate Scheme (SSES) visa. Any SSES visa issued to Pakistani citizens in the past is canceled. Under the SSES visa, at present any Pakistani national in India has given 48 hours to leave India.
  4. Defense or military officers – Navy and aerial advisors have been declared personality non -conscious at the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi. They have a week to leave India. Bharat will withdraw the Navy – Navy – Navy in Islamabad. These posts in the concerned high commissions are understood with immediate effect. Five assistant employees of service advisors will also be withdrawn from both the high commissions.
  5. The overall strength of high commissions will be brought below 30 through the current 55 further cuts, affecting by 01 May 2025.

Apart from these, Mr. Misri also announced that “CCS reviewed the overall security situation and directed all forces to maintain high vigilance. Solved that the criminals of the attack would be brought to the account of justice and their sponsors. With the recent extradition of Tahwur Rana, India would have uncontrolled in search of those who have attacked Terror.

Reacting to the decision to suspend the Indus Treaty, Water Resources Minister CR Patil said, “Even in the past, he (Pakistan) was given an ultimatum by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Action was taken in the past, and this time also criminals will not be spared.”

Indus Water Treaty – And what does it mean to suspend it

The three rivers in India have full authority over the water in India, controlling six common rivers under the 1960 Indus Water Treaty – Ravi, Beas and Sutlej, while Pakistan has authority over the water of Indus, Jhelum and Chenab.

The Indus Waters Treaty has been one of the very rare long-standing treaties between India and Pakistan and remains the most successful example of cooperation between two nuclear-host rivals.

Even in 2019, after the Pulwama terrorist attack, against paramilitary personnel, Prime Minister Narendra Modi allegedly told the Cabinet Committee on security that “blood and water could not flow together.” But at that time, it was not chosen to apply it.

But in view of the cowardly attack by Pakistan-based terrorist group The Resistance Front, who claimed the responsibility of killing 26 tourists in Kashmir, the top decision-making bodies in India have decided to suspend the water-sharing treaty.

Resistance Morcha is an offshoot of banned Lashkar-e-Tabiba.

The problem of water supply will be a matter of serious concern for Pakistan. In recent years, experts have warned that Pakistan is already on the verge of rapid water shortage due to a combination of factors – among them in population growth, climate change and poor water management.

In the past, when the Indus Treaty was being suspended by India, Pakistan said that a step to get out of the treaty would be considered as “a function of war” in Islamabad.

India’s decision to suspend the water-sharing treaty reflects the depth of New Delhi’s depth with Islamabad as a “means of state policy” with Islamabad on the use of Pakistan’s terrorism.
