Pakistan Defense Minister Khwaja Asif has warned India that it would attack any structure on the Indus River in the “violation of the Indus Water Treaty”, which was suspended after the Pahalgam terror attack.
Relations between two neighboring countries killed 26 people after the Pahgam terror attack on 22 April, mostly tourists.
Among other punitive functions, India announced suspension of the 1960 agreement, which controls water sharing between the two countries.
Speaking at a Jio news program on Friday, the Defense Minister said, “Sure, if they try to create any kind of structure, we will strike it.” Asif said that the construction of any structure on the Indus River will be seen as “Indian aggression” against Pakistan.
“Aggression is not only about firing cannons or bullets; it has many faces. One of those faces is [blocking or diverting water]Which can lead to death due to hunger and thirst, “he said.
The Defense Minister said, “If they make any architectural efforts, Pakistan will destroy that structure.
“But for now, we are available on the forums starting from IWT. [Indus Waters Treaty]We will take this matter forward. According to a media report on Friday, Pakistan is planning to issue a formal diplomatic notice to India against unilateral steps to suspend India to India.
Express tribune reported that a decision was taken after preliminary consultation between the Ministries of Pakistan’s foreign affairs, laws and water resources.
Separately, Pakistan launched a training of Abdali weapon system on Saturday-A surface-to-time missile with a range of 450 km.
Earlier on April 24, Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed to punish the Pahalgam terrorist attacks and the terrorists involved in his supporters.
According to government sources, at a high-level meeting with the top defense brass on 29 April, Modi said that the armed forces have “complete operational freedom” to take the mode, target and time decisions of India’s response to the terrorist attack.
