Beijing:
China’s Foreign Ministry on Monday announced that the Indian pilgrims would be able to travel to holy sites in Tibet for the first time in five years in this summer, in the latest signal of warming relations between two regional superpower.
Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar are important in many religions in the Tibet region of China, including Tibetan Buddhism and Hinduism, but the Indian pilgrims were unable to cross the border from 2020 due to Kovid epidemic and geopolitical tension between the two countries.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said at a regular press conference, “The pilgrimage of Indian devotees for the holy mountains and lakes in Tibet is an important part of the cultural exchange between China and India.”
He said, “China is ready to work with India to implement the important consensus by the leaders of the two countries,”
The relations between India and China made the Himalayas sour in view of the 2020 clash between the soldiers with their border in the Himalayas, killing at least 20 Indian soldiers and four Chinese.
But there have been many high-level meetings, since Xi Jinping and PM Modi met last year.
In December, China and India arrived at their six -digit consensus on their border during a meeting in Beijing, in which they agreed to resume the Indian pilgrims’ visit to Tibet.
And in January, the two countries agreed to resolve trade and economic differences and re -start direct air services by the Foreign Secretary of India after a visit to Beijing.
