Indian sand artist Sudarshan Pattannik honored “The Fred Darrington” in the UK

Indian sand artist Sudarshan Pattanik has been awarded the “The Fred Darrington” in the United Kingdom for his contribution as art.

The first British Sand Master Award was presented during the Sandworld 2025 International Sand Art Festival held at Vamouth.

To mark the occasion, Sri Pattanik made a 10 -foot -high sand sculpture of Lord Ganesha with a “World Peace” message.

This year’s festival saw the participation of several international sand artists, who performed a wide range of complex and creative sculptures. The event reminded of the 100th birth anniversary of Fred Darrington, the famous sand sculptor from Vemouth, after which the award was given.

The awards and medals were presented to Mr. Pattannik by the Mayor of Vammouth, John Oral. Sandworld Director, Mark Anderson and co-founder David Hicks were also present at the ceremony. Minister (TNC and Culture) Naorem J Singh also participated in the event at the Indian High Commission in London.

The organizers said this was the first time the award was presented to an Indian artist.

Padma Shri Awardee, Mr. Pattanik has participated in more than 65 international sand sculpture championships and festivals worldwide, which are earning many appreciation for their work.

On this occasion, Mr. Pattanik said, “Big day for me to receive awards in 2025. As an artist, it is very big for me. I dedicate it to all my fans and those who encourage me.”
