New Delhi:
Amidst the stress after the Pahalgam terror attack, in a day of the book, India has banned the mail and parcel from Pakistan as well as the docking of ships from the country at all Indian ports. On the other hand, Pakistan claimed that it successfully tested a ballistic missile with a 450 km border, which India is seen as a serious provocation, according to sources.
What would be the first in a series of measures on Saturday, unveiled, India said it was banning all imports from Pakistan with immediate effect in the interest of national security and public policy.
“The direct or indirect import or transit of all the items arising from Pakistan or exported, whether it is independently or otherwise permission, will be prohibited until further orders, with immediate effect. The restriction is imposed in the interest of national security and public policy.
After the Pulwama attack in 2019, India had imposed 200% duty on all goods imported from Pakistan, including fresh fruits, petroleum products, and cement.
Then, after the last week’s terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, the Vaga-Atari crossing was also closed, which stopped the trade with Pakistan to grind one as it was the last remaining route to India for goods from neighboring country.
In 2021–22 and 2022-23, India exported goods of $ 513.82 million and $ 627.1 million to Pakistan and imported to the tune of $ 2.54 million and $ 20.11 million, which was accounting for a very small percentage of its total trade. India’s exports to Pakistan between April 2024 and January this year were $ 447.65 million, while imports were only $ 0.42 million.
India’s next step, hours later, was to ban the docking of ships affecting Pakistan’s flag at ports in the country. It was also said that no Indian-furious vessel will visit any port in Pakistan.
Saying that the Merchant Shipping Act of 1958 is the best to “promote development and ensure efficient maintenance of an Indian business maritime, in a way to serve national interests”, the government said that the order is being released “to ensure the safety of Indian property, cargo and connected infrastructure and to the interest of Indian shipping.
Any exemption, it said, will be decided on the basis of case-by-case.
The third solution of the day by India was to ban all physical mail and parcel from Pakistan.
The Center said in an order, “The Government of India has decided to suspend the exchange of all categories of inbound mail and parcel from Pakistan through wind and surface routes.”
Pak missile test
While India’s measures were being rolled out, Pakistan claimed that it had successfully tested the surface-to-surface ballistic missile along the 450 km border. The country said that the Abdali missile was part of the “exercise Indus”, a name that could be important in the current circumstances.
The Pakistan Army said in a statement, “The purpose of launch was to ensure the operational readiness of the soldiers and validate the major technical parameters including the missile’s advanced navigation system and increased maneuver facilities.”
Sources in India said that this step was a dangerous growth by Pakistan.
A source said, “In such unstable circumstances, this planned missile test, is nothing short of a clear provocation and a desperate effort to reduce stress with India … It is a careless task of provoking and a dangerous growth in its hostile campaign against India,” a source said.
Earlier steps
Terrorists associated with Pakistani organization Lashkar-e-Tabiba set fire to the picturesque Besaran Valley on 22 April, killing 25 Indians and Nepali National. Indian tourists killed were the off-duty officers of the Navy and Intelligence Bureau.
A day after the attacks, India announced several measures against Pakistan, one of which was to suspend the Indus Water Treaty. The suspension of the treaty, which gives the right to water to Pakistan from three of the six rivers in the Indus system, harassed the country, stating that it sees it as a “work of war”.
The same day and the day after that, New Delhi also announced that most of the visas issued to Pakistanis, including medical visas, were being canceled.
In his response, Islamabad said some tight -for -tat measures that it was shutting down the airspace of the country for Indian airlines and it would “exercise rights” to keep all bilateral agreements ” – which also includes the major Shimla Agreement, which recognizes the line of control – holds.
