India’s first vertical lift Railway Sea Bridge to open in Rameswaram tomorrow

Chennai:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate India’s first vertical lift C Bridge in Rameswaram and will also dedicate other projects on 6 April. On the eve of the official program, the Indian Railways came out with a pracharak video of the picturesque New Pambon Bridge.

The Railway Ministry said, “Putting the past, raising the new, the Pamban stands long with a breathtaking scene. This Ram Navami, India’s first vertical lift Railway Sea Bridge – Unveiled in a day!” The coastal city has come into a security cover before the inauguration of the 550 crore bridge.

Around the afternoon (6 April), the Prime Minister will inaugurate the new Pambon Rail Bridge and Rameswaram-Tamberam (Chennai) will give a flag to the new train service, and a Coast Guard will be manipulated as the vertical lift rises to make a way to the spain, and witness to operate the bridge.

PM Modi is expected that he lays Foundation Stone at around 12.45 am at the famous Ramanathaswamy temple in Ramameswaram and later dedicated various rail and road projects worth more than Rs 8,300 crore in Tamil Nadu at around 1.30 pm.

These projects include foundation stones for four-leaning of 28 km long vuljapate-NH-40’s Ranipat section and 4-lane 29 km long Vilupapuram’s dedication to the nation of Wilupapuram-Puducherry section of dedication-NH-332 to the nation; 57 km long Pandiankupapam – NH -32’s Sattanathpuram section and 48 km long Cholpuram – Thajavur section of NH -36.

They will connect many pilgrimage centers and tourists, reduce the distance between cities and enable rapid access to medical colleges and hospitals, and will empower local farmers to transport agricultural products to nearby markets and promote local farmers to promote economic activity of local leather and small scale industries.

The bridge holds a deep cultural significance. According to the Ramayana, the construction of Ram Setu was started from Dhanushkodi near Rameswaram.

The bridge connects Ramameswaram to the mainland, standing as a notable achievement of Indian engineering on the global stage. It is built at a cost of more than Rs 550 crore. It is 2.08 km in length, it has 99 spans and a 72.5-meter vertical lift span that increases to a height of 17 meters, facilitating smooth movement of large vessels, while ensuring the operation of the seamless train, said it said.

Stainless steel reinforcement, high-grade protective paint and fully manufactured with welded joints, increased durability in the bridge and reduced the needs of maintenance. It is designed for dual rail tracks to accommodate future demands. A special polysiloxen coating protects it from rust, which ensures longevity in the rigid sea environment.

In 1914, the British engineers built a schoerzer rolling lift span with the original Pambon Bridge, a cantillar (a long piece of metal or wood (to support the end of a bridge to support the end of a bridge) to connect the Rameswaram Island with the mainland India.

For more than a century, it acts as an important lifeline for pilgrims, tourists and business. However, rigid maritime environment and growing transport demands required a modern solution. In 2019, the Government of India approved the creation of technically advanced, future replacement for future.

The new Pambon Bridge was constructed by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), which was a Navratna PSU to overcome several challenges under the Ministry of Railways, including environmental obstacles for logical complications, palak straight’s turbulent water, strong winds, and unpredictable weather patterns.

Additionally, the sensitivity of the area for cyclone and seismic activity required careful planning and strong design. It shares similarities with its technological progress and unique designs with globally recognized bridges. These include Golden Gate Bridge in the United States, Tower Bridge in London and Oresand Bridge in Denmark-Suredene. Each of these iconic structures, although differs in design and functionality, represents a peak of engineering excellence.

“Now, the new Pamban Bridge is proud of its company, a combination of state -of -the -art techniques with challenges arising out of coastal and seismic conditions of India,” the release states.
