Assam Chief Minister Himanta Sarma said that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was alive on Tuesday, he must have questioned him about the strategic decisions made during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, especially about handling the “chicken neck” corridors and post -war talks.
“What was the benefit of creating Bangladesh?” Shri Sarma asked during a press conference held at Vajpayee Bhavan in Guwahati.
“Our army won the 1971 war. Indira Gandhi was alive today, I must have asked him why he allowed him to build an Islamic nation. Why did they not withdraw Pakistan -occupied Kashmir (POK) in the Shimla Agreement? Why did he not expand the chicken corridor by talking for 100 and miles from Bangladesh to Bangladesh?” He asked.
The Chief Minister suggested that the former Prime Minister could convert the chicken’s neck corridor into a “proper road”.
The Chief Minister said, “You did not take a chicken neck. You could turn it into a proper road. Instead, we have a radical country today as our neighbor.”
Mr. Sarma said, “You changed the will of the Indian armed forces into a secular leader to become a secular leader. It was a surrender nation. You could have demanded the return of PoK and access to the Chittagong port,” Mr. Sarma said, continue his attack.
On Sunday, slogans like “Indira Hon Asan Nahi” and “India Misses Indira” were displayed outside the Congress headquarters in Delhi, when India and Pakistan agreed to the ceasefire after four days of military enmity.
On Saturday, Congress leader KC Venugopal recalled the leadership of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War.
Congress leader Pawan Kirra also posted former PM images on X and captioned it, “India Miss Indira.”
Defending the ceasefire with Pakistan, Mr. Sarma said that the purpose of Operation Sindoor, a counters for the deadly Pahgam terror attack against Pakistan, claimed that 26 lives were claimed, the terrorist network was to be punished and destroyed and it was successfully achieved on the night of May 6.
“Operation Sindoor aims to punish terrorists, and it was achieved within six nights and seventh morning, with the murder of 150 terrorists on Pakistani soil,” Mr. Sarma said.
The BJP leader underlined that India’s constant vengeance was a reaction to the terrorists of Pakistan.
“Once Pakistan realized that they would be removed, they approached the Director General of our military operations (DGMO). Now the Congress will have to say whether the Government of India should continue the war even after Pakistan’s support?” He asked.
The Chief Minister then addressed the Congress directly.
“What he did during his rule after repeated terrorist attacks in India? Today, he criticizes Modi ji, but he has shown India’s resolve in Balkot, Pulwama, and now in Pahgam. The Congress should introspect instead of criticizing others,” he warned.
