US vice-president JD Vance’s visit to India from Monday is against the backdrop of a global trade war, which was provoked by President Donald Trump, but the cross-country tour also provides both political and personal importance to the Vice President.
Vance arrived on Monday as the US does not reach a deal by the end of the 90-day stagnation Trump earlier this month, then the US is threatening to increase 10% tariffs on exports.
The White House said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been slated to host Vance for a bilateral meeting. Dialogue for the Indian leader is resulting, seeking a place to place his country as a leader of the global South – a group of emerging economies – in the hope of achieving impact on the world stage.
