A member of each family who lost a loved one in a recent border firing in Jammu and Kashmir will be given a government job, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday assured the affected people that their proper rehabilitation is the top priority.
Poonch sector saw the artillery firing about two weeks ago after an increase in India-Pakistan after the Pahgam terror attack on 22 April on 22 April, which claimed 26 civilians.

Sinha told reporters here, “We have made a big decision today that a member of each family who loses a loved one in the firing will be given a government job.”
He said that compensation of Rs 16 lakh has already been provided to the families of the victims, while the injured have been assisted as per government norms.
Mr. Sinha also reviewed the limit of loss to homes and commercial establishments and said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, the administration is committed to rapid compensation and restoration.
He said, “An assessment is going on to determine the amount of loss and once completed, relief will be distributed without relief. The administration is working with urgency,” he said.
Emphasizing the need for increased security infrastructure, LG announced a significant expansion in the construction of individual and community bunkers under the Safety Related Expenditure (SRE) scheme.
He said, “The shelling has revealed the lack of bunkers. Now we will start construction of more bunkers in the border districts,” he said.
During his visit, Sinha paid the honor at Gurdwara Dera Santapura Nangali Sahib and interacted with the public.
He condemned Pakistan to target religious places including a gurudwara, a temple and a mosque, called it “a cowardly attempt to disrupt social harmony”.
“I salute the people of Poonch whose courage has inspired our security forces. The Sikh community and all other citizens united against this attempt to create religious partitions,” he said.
LG reiterated the resolve of the Center, UT administration, and the armed forces and wants to work firmly against terrorism and divide the society.
Later, LG visited the Dungus area affected by the firing and presided over a high-level meeting with senior officials to review the ongoing relief and rehabilitation measures.
He directed to get immediate restoration of essential services, a comprehensive evaluation for bunker construction, upgradation of healthcare facilities and strengthening civil defense systems.
“Many homes and business establishments have been damaged in shelling. I want to say that the Prime Minister and the Home Minister of India have assured support.
The Lieutenant Governor said, “The administration is engaged in assessing the limit of loss. Once this process is completed, approval will be given as soon as possible, and compensation will be distributed,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
For strong border infrastructure, Sinha accepted the lack of protective structures in the region and announced a new initiative.
“It has been revealed that the number of bunkers is inadequate. More requires a pressure. Safety expenditure (SRE) scheme has been decided to construct both community and individual bunkers. The mass construction of bunkers will begin in Jammu and Kashmir.”
Emphasizing the administration’s resolve to end terrorism, he said, “Army, police and other security forces are working tirelessly to stop terrorism. I appeal to the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir to stand with my army in this anti-terror campaign.
