Several major universities in India have canceled tie-ups and programs with Turkish educational institutions on military support of the West Asian nation in Pakistan.

Saima Saeed said, “Jamia has suspended any form of cooperation with any Turkish educational institution and has also suspended any cooperation with any Turkish establishment. We are standing with the government and the nation, and everything is suspended by the next notice,” Sayema ​​Saeed said.

The University of Delhi is reviewing its international educational partnership and will take a decision after the process is completed.

“We are all checking the mou, and we will take a decision only after reviewing the agreements,” said an official of DU.

Maulana Azad National Urdu University in Hyderabad also canceled the MoU signed with immediate effect with the Younus Emere Institute in Turkey.

The university said in a statement, “The decision was taken to protest against Türkiye’s support for Pakistan’s terrorist activities in the backdrop of Indo-Pak tension.”

It said that the MoU was signed to be effective for five years in January 2024, under which the university offered a diploma in Turkish language in the School of Languages, Linguistics and Indology.

The support of Türkiye and Azerbaijan for Pakistan has not only given them the cost of some educational mousse, but also opportunities to do business. Trade association and tour operators have boycotted Turkey, in which many travel websites are canceling and not accepting the Turkish journey program.

BJP MP and All India Traders (CAIT) campus general secretary Praveen Khandelwal said that he would talk with business leaders in Delhi on Friday to decide that business agreements with Turkey and Azerbaijan should be “terminated”.

CAIT is running a nationwide campaign to boycott Chinese products, which has a significant impact, and now it intends to increase this movement to Türkiye and Azerbaijan. The organization will coordinate with travel and tour operators and other relevant stakeholders to speed up this campaign.

Turkey’s body told news agency ANI that Turkey’s total tourism revenue was $ 61.1 billion, with each Indian tourist spending an average $ 972, the total estimated Indian expenditure was $ 291.6 million.

In addition, the cancellation of Indian weddings, corporate programs and other cultural programs will lead to further indirect economic loss to Turkey.

Speaking about Azerbaijan, Mr. Khandelwal said that in 2024, the country got 2.6 million foreign tourists, of which about 2.5 lakh Indians were Indians. The average expenditure by an Indian tourist was 2,170 AZN, which is approximately $ 1,276, the total Indian contribution is around 308.6 million dollars. The boycott by Indian tourists can result in direct loss of this magnitude, he said.
