Karnataka Home Minister Ji Parmeshwar apologized after his comment on the sexual harassment incident in Bengaluru, which made public anger. Mr. Parmeshwar claimed that his statement was misunderstood, and he did not want it to be carried forward.
“I want to clarify that the statement I had made yesterday was not understood properly, I am someone who was always very concerned about the safety of women.
The center of the controversy has a video BTM layout CCTV footage from the neighborhood. The viral clip showed a person following two women in a street and caught one of them. He ran away when another woman tried to defend her.
After the video went viral, the police filed a case for attack and sexual harassment. The woman has not filed any complaint.
Commenting on the incident, Shri Parmeshwar, the minister in charge of law and order in Karnataka, said that yesterday he was pressurizing the police to improve patrolling.
“When some incidents take place here and there, of course, people will be attracted to them. The police is working 24×7. Some incidents take place here and there. In such a big city, such incidents will happen. We will take necessary action according to the law.”
The BJP condemned its remarks as a “insensitive” with the party spokesperson, asking if he was having sexual harassment and crimes against women. His comment was disgusting and demonetisation, former Deputy Chief Minister Ashwath Narayan said.
He said, “People are losing confidence due to these statements. His statement shows how helpless he is as a Home Minister. He should give a responsible statement,” he said.
