Kochi:
A senior officer of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has been booked by the Kerala Vigilance and Anti -Corruption Bureau in the case of corruption.
Sources in VACB said that the officer associated with the Kochi unit of the Central Agency was booked as the first accused in the corruption case lodged as per a complaint from a businessman.
Three persons, including a chartered accountant, have already been arrested in the case, who has been arrested in the case for taking a bribe of Rs 2 crore from the businessman.
According to the remand report submitted by Wake before the court, the ED officer is the main accused in the case.
The other accused were arrested on Friday, while the Chartered Accountant in Kochi was arrested on Saturday, the Wakeb official said that a senior official said.
S Sasidharan, Superintendent of Wakeb, Ernakulam told reporters here that a detailed investigation was being done in the case and the ED officer was booked on the basis of the complainant’s statement.
The accused ED officer has not been arrested yet, he said.
He said, “The complainant has mentioned the name of the ED officer in his complaint. Therefore, he has been nominated as the main accused in the FIR. A detailed investigation is to be done and more things are to be verified in that aspect,” he said.
When reporters asked if the ED officer was booked as there were strong evidence against him, the Wakeb Officer did not give any direct reply.
If a clear comment is made against someone in a complaint, the person will be produced as an accused in the case, the officer said.
He further said that more details cannot be divided at this time as the investigation is going on.
