CBSE Exam 2025: Amended Grading System

Starting with 2024–25 academic session, CBSE has introduced a ‘relative grading’ system aimed at reducing academic pressure and unhealthy competition among students.

Unlike the traditional method, where the grade was assigned based on the fixed mark range (eg, 91–100 for A1, 81-90 for A2), the new system evaluates students relative to their peers. The grades are now determined by the position of a student within a performance group, which can be different for each subject which can be based on the number of students who clarify it.

This year, more than 42 lakh students appeared for the examinations held between 15 February and 4 April. The class 10 board exam was concluded on 18 March, while the Class 12 examination ended on 4 April.
