Maharashtra acquires raghuji bhonsle’s sword for Rs 47 lakh at london auction

The Maharashtra government has acquired the famous “Raghuji Talwar” of the 18th century Maratha General Raghuji Bhonsle, which is for Rs 47.15 lakh in an auction in London, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Tuesday.

Raje Raghuji Bhonsle, the founder of the Bhonsle dynasty of Nagpur, led the fight against the Nawab of Bengal in 1745, De Fadnvis said on X.

The CM said that Talwar was achieved through a mediator, not directly but due to some technical issues.

Sothabi, who auctioned on Tuesday, stated on its portal that the basket-Hil Talwar (Khand) was sold for 38,100 pounds. Estimated before the auction was between 6,000 and 8,000 pounds, it was added.

His representatives also participated in the bidding process on his behalf and bid up to Rs 35 lakh, the former royal family member told the media.

He requested the state and central government to help bring back the sword to the country, and Chief Minister D Fadnavis called him and assured that it would be brought back, Mr. Bhonsle said.
