Police in Mangaluru, Karnataka, have implemented prohibitive orders across the city after a person, a prime accused in a murder case, was killed late Thursday.
Suhas Shetty, who was in his early thirtyth decade, was killed by at least five men using mackages and swords on a busy road. His murder was caught on CCTV.
He was reportedly associated with various local Hindutva organizations and several cases were registered against him, including attacks and illegal assembly.
He was also a prominent accused in the murder of a man in 2022, Mohammad FazilIn Mangaluru. Faizil’s assassination was widely considered an anti -anticipatory murder after the assassination of BJP’s youth activist Pravin Netteru.
After Shetty’s assassination, the police implemented prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Indian Municipal Security Code across the borders of the Mangalore city police.
The order prohibits public functions, meetings, processions, raising slogans and carrying items that can be used as weapons.
The preliminary inquiry suggested that the attack was predetermined, although the motive is not clear, the police said, saying that the investigation is on.
Karnataka Home Minister Ji Parmeshwar said that four separate teams have been formed to track the suspects.
“We are going to bring them into books … We have taken it very seriously,” he told reporters today.
