Police in Manipur and four other state cookie tribes in the Northeast are searching for the leader of the body, against whom a first information report (FIR) has been filed for allegedly to make a disgusting speech against members of the Metei community.
In a public speech, Paojakhup Gite of Cookie Students Organization (KSO) had allegedly threatened to pass the cookie settlements from the state capital Imphal Valley to Ukharil district from Ukharil district to organize the site of Shirui Lily Festival from 20 to 24 May.
The police posted a screengrab of a video, in which Mr. Gite was shown holding a mike and addressing a roadside gathering in Cookie-head Charachandpur district of southern Manipur. In the video that appeared on social media, the cookie student leader spoke in the dialect of his tribe.
The hideouts of Shri Gite are unknown at 5 pm on Saturday.
“As is in relation to a Paojakhap Gite, Prez KSO Delhi (in a video) has threatened Miti, so that the buffer zone is not allowed to cross the upcoming Shirui Festival in Ulharal. [sic]Which has been broadcast on social media since yesterday, the CC Pur police has registered an FIR and all efforts including raids in nearby dists etc. are being made for his immediate arrest, “Manipur Police said in a post on X.
Police said, “Police of neighboring states of Mizoram, Assam, Nagaland and Meghalaya etc. have been requested to arrest them as soon as possible. All necessary security arrangements will be made to ensure the safety of the people participating in the Shirui festival.”

Meitei groups alleged that cookie organizations are trying to play “aggrieved cards” and in indecent speech of sugarcane Mr. Guite, in which they allegedly called upon the members of the Miti community to harm the members of the community, who pass through the Kuki villages to Ukharul district. The Manipur Tourism Department says that the Shirui Lily Festival is themed on the rare flower of the state and wants to promote sustainable and responsible tourism across the state. It also states that the incident also serves to raise awareness about the endangered Shirui Lily, a vegetation treasure, especially found in the Shirui hills of Manipur in Ukhul district, which is the home of the state’s highest hill station, about 83 km east and Tangkul Nagas.
Manipur Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Singh went to Ukharul for two days last week to oversee security arrangements for the festival. The state who is under the rule of the President has assured that it will provide security for members of all communities who want to attend the Shirui Lily Festival.
Cookie tribes and mathis have been fighting many issues such as land rights and political representation since May 2023. More than 260 have been killed and 50,000 have been displaced internally from violence.
On Friday, Cookie Civil Society Organizations and MLA announced that they would no longer join the government until it resumes “solid political dialogues” with two umbrellas organizations that represent 25 terrorist groups – Kuki National Organization (KNO) and United People’s Front (UPF). KNO and UPF have signed suspension of the operations (SOO) agreement with the Central and State Government.
