A married man and his associates threw acid on their alleged girlfriend on Saturday, angry at his adjacent marriage to another person, the police said.
The 25 -year -old woman, who was preparing for her Tilak ceremony on 23 May and was getting married on May 27, said 60 percent of the jealousy in the attack, which took place in the Ghosi Kotwelli area of Mau district.
Three persons – the main accused Ram Janam Singh Patel and his companions Manoj Yadav and Surendra Yadav – have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Police said that the victim was returning home after withdrawing money from a bank, a resident of a village in Ghosi Kotwali area, when he was ambushed by two masked motorcycles and ambusheds who threw acid on it.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mahesh Singh Atri said, “The substance severely burnt the girl’s face, neck and shoulder, left her in critical condition. She was taken to a hospital in Azamgarh, where doctors assessed her burning at about 60 percent.” In his statement to the police in the hospital, the woman said as threatening one of the attackers, “If you are not mine, I will not let you become someone else”, the officer said.
According to the police, Ram Janam Singh Patel, who is already married and has four children, said he was in a five -year romantic relationship with an acid attack victim.
After knowing that her marriage was fixed to another person, Patel revolved around the attack with the help of Surendra and Manoj.
During interrogation, Patel admitted that he wanted to marry the woman, the police said.
He said that an FIR has been registered in the case and the three accused have been arrested. The motorcycle used in the crime has also been recovered.
