Meet lawyers representing the anti -terrorism agency NIA in the Tahwur Rana case


New Delhi:

Tavavur Rana, a prime accused in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, was extradited from the United States and was brought back to India on Thursday evening. On arrival, Rana was taken for regular medical examination and then produced before Special NIA Judge Chander Jit Singh for detention proceedings.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) was represented by Senior Advocate Dayan Krishnan and Special Public Prosecutor Narnder Mann. Rana was represented by lawyer Piyush Sachdeva from the Delhi Legal Services Authority.

Who is Dayan Krishnan?

Dayan Krishna He is a senior advocate of the Supreme Court of India.

He is a graduate from India’s first National Law School, National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore’s first batch (1993).

After graduating in 1993, he worked with senior advocate Santosh Hegde, who later became a Supreme Court Judge and Solicitor General of India. He continued to work with Mr. Hegde till 1999, after which he established his legal practice.

He has worked on many high-profile legal matters, including:

  • 2001 Parliament attack case
  • Kaveri River Water Disputes
  • Various telecom cases
  • 1999 Justice JS Verma worked with the Commission

He was a special public prosecutor in the December 2012 Delhi gang-existence and murder case, one of the most widely criminal trials in India.

Shri Krishnan has represented several major government bodies such as the Union of India, National Investigation Agency (NIA), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Delhi Government and Delhi Police.

He has played iconic roles:

in 2010, Dayan Krishna The NIA was appointed as a special lawyer and was part of a team who went to Chicago to question David Coleman Headley, accused in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

In 2011, he represented the government in the extradition case of Ravi Shankaran from Britain. In 2012, he appeared as a special lawyer for the CBI in the extradition case of Raymond Verley, which was associated with a child sexual abuse case in Goa.

In 2014, he was appointed as Special Public Prosecutor in the extradition case of David Headley and Tahwur Rana. The same year, he was nominated as a senior advocate by the Delhi High Court, who became the second NLSIU Bangalore graduate to receive the honor.
