Ahmedabad:
More than 1,000 illegal Bangladeshi migrants, including women and children, were detained after the comb operation in Ahmedabad and Surat, and efforts were underway for their exile, the house of the house Harsh Sanghvi said on Saturday.
At least 890 Bangladeshis were detained in Ahmedabad and 134 in Surat, which the minister had called the biggest operation of its kind by the Gujarat Police till date.
Shri Sanghvi warned the illegal immigrants living in Gujarat to surrender to the police on their own agreement, or they would be arrested and deported.
He also warned of legal action against people who gave shelter to illegal migrants.
“A historical success has been achieved in minors illegal Bangladeshis. 890 illegal migrants were caught by Ahmedabad Police and 134 by Surat Police. It is the biggest operation of Gujarat Police against illegal people living in the state,” Mr. Sanghavi presided over a meeting after a meeting in Seenat.
He said that the prisoners used fake documents obtained from West Bengal to live in different parts of India before coming to Gujarat.
The minister said, “Many of these people are involved with drug cartel, human trafficking, and as we saw two of the four Bangladeshis arrested, recently worked in Al Qaeda’s sleeper cells. A investigation will be done in the backdrop of their activities in these Bangladeshis and Gujarat.” He said that “arrangements were made to complete all the procedures for your exile as soon as possible.
He said, “We will also examine the fake documents used to reach various parts of the country and Gujarat, and action will be taken against those who make fake documents.”
Shri Sanghvi said that the police have been instructed to take action against illegal migrants in Gujarat, and a clear order has been given to Pakistani citizens to leave Gujarat as per the decision made in the Cabinet Committee meeting on security.
It is the responsibility of the state government to ensure that the citizens of other countries should not remain illegally in their state, the minister said that the Ahmedabad city and Surat police were successfully congratulated for successfully improving the “intruders” for the operation to stay in the field all night.
He further said that West Bengal will be provided evidence of how the prisoners get fake documents in the state.
Speaking to the media in Ahmedabad, Director General of Police (DGP) Vikas Sahe said that the prisoners were being questioned, and their nationality was being established on the basis of documentary and other evidence.
“Once the police establish that they are Bangladeshi citizens, their exile will be done as soon as possible with the Central Government and the Border Security Force (BSF),” he said.
Sahey said that the operation was done together in Ahmedabad and Surat around 3 am on Saturday.
