New Delhi:
The Finance Ministry has given the status of tax exemption to the National Mission for Clean Ganga, according to a notification of CBDT, the bodies deciding for the Income Tax Department and the Direct Tax Administration.
The notification also specified that the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), the implementation body of the government’s leading name was now an authority under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.
It states that an authority constituted under the NMCG, Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, will now enjoy the income tax exemption starting from the year 2024-25.
The exemption is subject to the condition that the NMCG continues to function as an authority under the Environment (Protection) Act, which is with one or more objectives mentioned in sub-section (A) of the sub-section (46A) of the Income Tax Act.
These objectives usually include objectives such as promoting sustainable development, conservation of environment and advancement of public welfare.
The National Mission for Clean Ganga under the Ministry of Water Power has projects from several states and this includes sewage treatment, river cleaning, afforestation, monitoring of industrial flow and promoting public participation in Ganga conservation efforts.
