A four -member team of National Security Guard (NSG) Commandos visited the Sri Jagannath temple in Puri on Monday to regular security reviews as part of their annual calendar.
Speaking to the media, Superintendent of Police (SP), Puri, Vineet Aggarwal said, “A four -member team of NSG Commandos has come here to review the security around Sri Jagannath Temple as part of a regular process, which is part of their annual calendar.”
The purpose of the Elite NSG team’s visit is to assess the existing security measures in the temple, which is one of the most revered and heavy pilgrimage sites in India. Officials said the reviews include admission and exit points, mob management protocols, emergency response mechanisms and coordination between local police and temple security staff.
The NSG, the major anti-terrorism force of India, periodically reviews such a review in major religious and public places to ensure preparations against any possible security threats. Exercise in Puri is in line with these standard operation processes and is not associated with any specific alerts, the sources said.
The Shri Jagannath Temple, which attracts millions of devotees every year, is a high-protection area with several layers of security and monitoring, especially during the annual Rath Yatra. The regular journey by the NSG team is seen as an active step to strengthen the safety structure and ensure the safety of the devotees and the temple premises.
Local authorities confirmed that the journey went smoothly, and the NSG team shared their comments with the district police for any possible promotion in the security system.
Meanwhile, in view of the Pahalgam attacks that kill 26 people, the Union Home Ministry has asked several states to organize mock drills for effective civil defense on 7 May. The measures to be taken include warning of air attack on civil security aspects to protect themselves in the event of hostile attacks and conducting the training of citizens, students, etc.
Measures include provision of crash blackout measures, provision for early camouflage of important establishments and withdrawal scheme and provision to update its rehearsal.
