New Delhi:
Former AAP ministers Manish Sisodia and Satyendra Jain are allegedly facing the latest trouble in the Rs 2,000 crore class construction scam. The Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Delhi Police has registered a case of corruption against the two leaders and has initiated a comprehensive investigation to find out the role of other alleged criminals.
ACB chief Madhur Verma said that the role of unknown government officials and contractors is also being investigated.
Deputy Chief Minister Shri Sisodia organized an education portfolio in the Arvind Kejriwal government, while Mr. Jain was the minister in charge of the government agency, PWD (Public Works Department) to complete such constructions.
The ACB has found that more than 12,000 classes and school buildings were constructed at a high cost during the last AAP rule, causing the alleged irregularity of Rs 2,000 crore.
The contracts were honored to 34 contractors, and most of them were found associated with AAP. The ACB stated that the construction was not completed within the stipulated time frame, which led to a huge increase in the cost.
The classrooms were formed as a semi-installed structure (SPS) that would last for 30 years. However, the cost turned out to be equal to paved classes, which has a 75 -year life, an anti -corruption investigation has been revealed.
The ACB said that advisors and architects were hired without following the fixed process.
Some BJP leaders started an investigation after registering complaints that the cost of construction of classes had increased by about five times.
The ACB said that a report by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) also highlighted several irregularities in the class project, but was suppressed for nearly three years.
The report said that the cost of construction of SPS reached Rs 2,292 per sq ft, equal to the cost of construction of concrete school buildings at about 2044-2416 per sq ft. Without bringing new tenders, the cost of the project increased by Rs 326 crore.
