Nipah virus case confirmed in Malappuram district of Kerala, woman infected

Malappuram:

Health officials said on Wednesday that the Nipah virus case in Malappuram district of Kerala has been confirmed.

State Health Minister Veena George said that a woman from Valenchry in the district has found out the infection of the Nipa virus.

Health officials said that she is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Penthlaman.

He said that the woman had been experiencing fever for the past one week and was developing symptoms like cough and difficulty in breathing. Suspecting a possible Nipa infection, its samples were sent to the virology laboratory in Pune.

Officials said the laboratory later confirmed it to be a case of Nipah infection.
