Srinagar:
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on Tuesday that he hoped that Jammu and Kashmir will be restored in the state very soon and “fair time has come”.
He was talking to reporters after inaugurating a bridge in Pulwama district.
“We think the appropriate time has come, six months have passed after the assembly elections. (Union Home Minister Amit) Shah came here, I met him a separate meeting, a good one … I still hope that Jammu -Kashmir will soon get back to his state,” said Mr. Abdullah.
In the opposition’s charge that the ruling party rejected the discussion on the Waqf Amendment Act, he said that the adjournment motion could not be recruited as the Bill was passed by Parliament.
“The speaker made everything clear on the last day. Perhaps, the mistake by the members was that they had brought a stay motion. A adjournment motion is brought only to discuss the works of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir as the government will have to reply.
He said, “Tell me, was that adjournment motion accepted, how would we answer because the Waqf Bill was not brought by us? It was passed by the Center in Parliament,” he said.
Mr. Abdullah said that a proposal can be recruited in the assembly under separate rules.
He said, “However, it has now passed. Many parties including the National Conference have contacted the Supreme Court and have put their views in front of the apex court. Now, we will see what SC says,” he said.
After the inauguration, Mr. Abdullah said it was unfortunate that it took 11 years to connect the bridge connecting South Kashmir to Chur-e-Shiis with South Kashmir after the 2014 flood.
“It is unfortunate that it took a long time to rebuild it. The bridge was washed in the 2014 flood and it has taken 11 years to reconstruct.
