Peon evaluated the answer sheet in Madhya Pradesh, principal suspended

Narmadapuram:

The principal and a professor of a government college in Narmadapuram district was suspended after a viral video, showing a peon evaluating the answer sheets of the students.

Sources said that the victim students had approached local MLA Thakurdas Nagvanshi, who had then lodged a complaint with the officials.

Responding to the incident, Youth Affairs Minister and Cooperative Societies Vishwas Sarang confirmed that the principal and the nodal officer had been suspended.

The minister said that action has also been taken against the professor (which were tasked to evaluate the answer sheet) and peon.

He said, “Instructions have been given to ensure that such incidents not recur. The government always tries to maintain the quality of higher education. The incident is unfortunate and incompetent. The most strict action will be taken,” he said.

Rakesh Verma, Principal of Bhagat Singh Government College, Piparia, claimed that he and Professor Ramgulam Patel were suspended on 4 April.

Mr. Verma said that the answer sheet assessment work was assigned to a guest teacher, who then handed it over to a peon through a book lifter posted in the college.

A complaint was increased in January this year after a video clip on social media surfaced, Mr. Verma said.

He further claimed that Professor Patel was appointed as a nodal officer for evaluation work by Raja Shankar Shah University, Chhindwara.

“I was implicated,” Mr. Verma claimed that while sharing a letter related to Patel’s appointment, as the nodal officer of the evaluation work was released in the last August.

Mr. Verma mentioned that he has written to the Department of Higher Education, requested for the suspension of his suspension.
