Police jumps in Hindon Canal Ghaziabad in the bid to protect the woman from alleged suicide, dies


Ghaziabad:

Officials said a traffic police constable died on Saturday, when he jumped into the Hindon Canal to save a woman, which was allegedly attempting suicide, said the officials said.

The constable, identified as Ankit Tomar, was in his latest condition. He was declared dead in a nearby hospital after the divers were pulled from the mud canal.

According to police, the incident came to light when Aarti (23), resident of Vary Sector 2, jumped into the canal after a domestic dispute with her husband Aditya on Saturday morning.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Trans Hindon) Nimish Patil said, “Traffic Sub-Inspector (TSI) Dharmendra and Constable Ankit Tomar, who were on duty nearby, immediately jumped into the canal to save Aarti.

Many passengers also participated in the rescue attempt. While Aarti was successfully pulled for safety, TSI and Constable Tomar got trapped in the scavengers of the canal. ,

The DCP said, “While Tsi Dharmendra managed to remove himself, Tomar was stranded.

He said that the body was sent for the post -mortem examination.
