Protest against embankment built by Bangladesh near Tripura border

Guwahati:

The ruling BJP’s Alliance Partner Tipra Motha Party’s Youth Wing, Youth Tipra Federation or YTF held a major protest on Monday in Bonkar Bazaar near Bangladesh border in South Tripura, in which concern over a highly enlarged embankment built by Bangladesh, next to the Muhari river, close to the zero line. The Bangladesh is constructing an embankment along the international border and the local people are afraid of floods in the Indian side, especially during the monsoon.

After carrying the Indian flag and the party’s banner, the protesters tried to march towards the embankment site. But they were stopped by a heavy contingent of security forces, including the border security forces, who cited the risk of increasing tension with the sensitive border area.

During the protest, the members of the YTF raised anti -Bangladesh slogans and trampled the posters of Mohammad Yunas, the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government of Bangladesh, who recently made controversial comments in China, described Northeast India as “Landlocked” and Bangladesh, as they had painted their “gateway” as “Gateway” as “Gateway”.

After a conversation between security officers and YTF leaders, including state president Suraj Debbarma and David Mursingh, president of TTAADC South Zone, were allowed to visit the border area to inspect the embankment and perform a symbolic protest.

Talking to the media later, YTF President Suraj Debarma accused the Bangladeshi government of violating the international border norms by constructing so close to the Indian territory.

“As citizens of India, it is our right and duty to protect our land and boundaries,” said Mr. Debbarm.

He questioned why the government has not yet taken strong action against Bangladesh’s activities and warned Tipra Motha’s “Warrior of Maharaja” (referring to the party’s founder Pridot Kishore Debarma) would not tolerate any encroachment.

Mr. Debbarma further threatened that if Bangladesh tries to seize even an inch of India’s land, Tipra Motha would intensify their demand for the “maximum tip of the maximum tip” to areas such as Chittagong Hill Tracts and Cox Bazaar, which was part of the former prince state of Tripura before the partition.

Local villagers in Belonia, meanwhile, resonated concerns about the new embankment and urged the Indian authorities to urge the Indian authorities to expedite the construction of a protective embankment in their favor to prevent possible floods during the upcoming rainy season.
