QI2 25W was unveiled as the latest wireless charging specification from the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) on Wednesday. The latest standard is actually called QI V2.2.1, but its marketing name is more memorable, and WPC claims that Android smartphones and Apple’s iPhone will include support for new specifications. It is claimed to provide 70 percent more power than QI2 (15W) compatible devices. Android smartphones that support QI2 25W will provide wireless charging speed on the equal value with Apple’s Magsafe 2 for the iPhone.
WPC says
A WPC announcement says the new QI2 25W specification will be Adopted by “major Android smartphone”But there is no mention that the upcoming smartphones will provide support for fast wireless charging. Apple’s iPhone model, which already support the company’s Magsafe 2 specifications, will also support QI2 25W charging.
In 2023, WPC introduced the QI2 standard, offering support for wireless charging at 15W on compatible smartphones. Unlike the previous QE-attested smartphone, which can be charged at 7.5W using a compatible accessory, QI2 and QI2 25W compatible equipment must be equipped with magnets to align the charger on the rear panel.
However, only a few handset QE2 are compatible with smartphones and HMD Skyline Samsung Galaxy S25 series, and are equipped with only later magnets that provide appropriate support for Q2 charging. Other devices manufacturers provide support through cases equipped with magnets.
It is worth noting that Samsung recently surveyed its customers through members of members about wireless charging on their smartphones. The South Korean firm reportedly asked users if they would prefer smartphones equipped with magnets for wireless charging, even though it thickened the phone due to additional components.
WPC states that “fourteen devices, receivers and transmitters” have been tested for QI2 25W certification as part of a limited launch, and soon “several hundred” devices will be tested. However, it is not clear whether most of these goods, or smartphones are charging or not. QI2 25W with support for 25W wireless charging can occur on the surface in the coming months.
