Raghav Chadha’s Jib at Center on American tariff

New Delhi:

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha on Thursday took a film potshot at the BJP -led center after imposing 26 percent mutual tariff in India.

Raghav Chadha said that India had left no stone unturned to maintain friendship with us, even removed a ‘Google Tax’ to protect the interests of American companies, but nothing was found in return.

Speaking on the US, AAP MP Raghav Chadha, while implementing 26 percent of the “mutual” tariff on India, said, “We used to listen to a song ‘Acha Sila Dia Tune Mere Pyaar Ka’ … India left no stone unturned to maintain friendship. Even to protect the interests of American companies, he removed one tax called ‘Google Tax’.

Meanwhile, India has said that it will review and assess the effects of mutual tariffs. Talking to reporters in the national capital, Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said, “For Donald Trump, this is the first America, and for Modi ji, this is India first. We will first analyze it, then we will assess its effect and see how to deal with it.”

On 2 April, US President Trump announced a wide implementation of tariffs on countries around the world. In February, soon after taking charge for the second time, Trump prepared a new trade policy focused on fairness and mutuality and stated that the US would implement mutual tariffs, charging other countries that they have been levied on American goods.

Trump insisted that tariffs would address inappropriate trade practices including non-monetary obstacles, subsidies and VAT systems, while encouraging abroad to reduce or abolish tariffs against the US.

According to the announcements, import tariffs on other major countries on China (34 percent), European Union (20 percent), Vietnam (46 percent), Taiwan (32 percent), Japan (24 percent), India (26 percent), United Kingdom (10 percent), Bangladesh (37 percent) (37 percent) (37 percent) (37 percent) (37 percent) (37 percent) (37 percent) (37 percent) (37 percent).

Under the tariff imposed, India’s goods will face 27 percent tariffs on steel, aluminum and auto related goods and there will be no tariff on pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, copper or energy products.

According to experts, tariffs imposed on Indian goods exported to the US presents a dual-edge landscape to India’s manufacturing sector.

On the one hand, Indians make a compared to Indian goods compared to the people of China, Thailand and Vietnam, making a favorable arbitration opportunity for Indian exports.

For the remaining products, India will be taxed at a 27 percent mutual tariff.
