Sources said that the Congress leader in the Lok Sabha, Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, has reached the Prime Minister’s office for a meeting, which is expected to lead to the selection of the next chief of the Central Bureau of Investigation, sources said.
The committee of choosing the CBI chief includes the Prime Minister, the Chief Justice of India and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha for a certain term of two years. The term can be extended for five years.
The term of current CBI Director Praveen Sood ends on 25 May.
The 1986 batch of Karnataka cadre and the Chief of the State Police was taken charge of the Central Investigation Agency by Mr. Sood, an officer of the Indian Police Service (IPS), who stepped into the shoes of Subodh Kumar Jiswal.
