Rahul Gandhi on caste census

New Delhi:

Rahul Gandhi of the Congress today said that the Center’s decision for the club’s census with next year’s population census is a welcome step, although it has been taken under pressure. He also kept a broad roadmap to get social justice – underlining the next three phases which the Congress will push.

Calling the census of the caste a “new paradigm of development”, he said, “This was our vision, we are happy that they have adopted it”.

His party, he said, now wants to “go beyond” and see what is “90 percent of the people’s participation”.

He said, “50 percent cap on reservation is becoming an obstacle for the progress of our country and the progress of backward castes, Dalits and tribals and we want this obstacle to be abolished.”

He said, “We have put enough pressure on the government to do caste census and we want when it is done and we want to pressurize the government to destroy the 50 percent cap,” he said.

He said, “There is a third thing after that – Article 15.5 which is reservation in private educational institutions, which is already a law. We want the law to be implemented as soon as possible,” he said.
