Rahul Gandhi visited Poonach Gurdwara targeted by Pak Shelling

Rahul Gandhi visited the Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. The major religious site was killed by Pakistani shelling earlier this month when border tension between the two countries increased after India’s Operation Sindoor.

In a video shared by news agency Annie on X, Mr. Gandhi, in a pair of his trademark white shirt and black pants, is seen paying orders in the gurudwara.

The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha wrote on X, “Today, he visited the temple, gurudwara and madrasa affected by Pakistani attacks.”

Thirteen citizens, including two students, died in Poonch district, which was the worst hit in Pakistan between 7 and 10 May.

Mr. Gandhi visited the central region for the second time since the death of 26 people in the Pahalgam terror attack on 22 April. Earlier, he visited Srinagar on 25 April and met people who faced injuries during the terrorist attack.

At that time, the Congress MP also spoke with Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

On Saturday morning, Rai Barli MP arrived at Jammu Airport and left for Poonch in a helicopter. Soon after his arrival, Mr. Gandhi visited the seriously affected areas of Pakistani shelling and met the bereaved families.

During his visit, he also met school students, who lost two of his friends – Zain Ali and Urwa Fatima for Pakistani shelling in Poonch Town on 7 May.

PTI said that while consolation, Gandhi told the students to “study hard, work hard and make many friends”.

He assured them not to worry, “everything will be normal”.

In addition, he visited the families of those who died in shelling and inspected the damage to homes and other religious places.

During his meeting with the Congress leader, some residents demanded their intervention to increase the compensation of their damaged houses.

After the Pahalgam terror attack, India strongly retaliated with Operation Sindoor and targeted nine terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistan -occupied Kashmir.
