Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Bihar Hostel, Casefielded

Patna:

Congress’s Rahul Gandhi came into controversy today after disregarding police obstacles, after meeting students in Bihar in a hostel in Darbhanga. The state government said that he was not allowed for a meeting in the hostel and some cases were registered against him. However, Mr. Gandhi said that he has 30-32 such cases against him and he considers him a “medal”.

The police allegedly stopped Mr. Gandhi’s car from attending the event, but he moved to the hostel and addressed the students there as the Congress started its “Shikha Nay Samvad” program.
Later this year, with the assembly elections in the state, the Congress has alleged that the government’s move was politically motivated.

“I came here to meet and talk to the students who belong to the marginalized communities, but government officials are not allowing us to enter,” Mr. Gandhi asked reporters outside the Ambedkar hostel.

“I have only three questions – we want the government to invest money in education, break the wall of 50 percent education, and introduce reservation in private schools.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Emperor Chaudhary alleged that Mr. Gandhi “resorted to hooliganism” even though he was given an alternative site for that meeting.

He said, “It is painful that the Leader of the Opposition was not allowed to go, his party leaders had booked the town hall, but still he (Rahul Gandhi) forcibly resorted to hooliganism and operated the program using force,” he said by news agency Annie.

He said, “It is very unfortunate that the leaders of the opposition of the country are speaking in this way, in this way have resorted to hooliganism … We only go to the hostels for the Bihar government’s plan. No one is allowed to go there for any political meeting,” he said that Mr. Gandhi apologizes to the people of Bihar.

Regarding the police matters filed against Mr. Gandhi, Darbhanga district administration said in a statement, “The first FIR has been lodged by the District Welfare Officer on the basis of a complaint filed at Laheriyasarai police station (holding magistorial power). The second case was filed for prohibitory orders against dozens of unknown people.
