The Rajya Sabha on Friday adopted a statutory resolution, supporting the decision to implement the President’s rule in the conflicting Manipur along with the members of the party lines, while the opposition slammed the Center for the situation in the state.
Speaking at the end of a discussion on the resolution, Union Home Minister Amit Shah expected an early solution to the conflict between two warning communities in Manipur.
Mr. Shah informed the house that two meetings between communities have already been held in Manipur. He hoped that soon there would be a third in New Delhi.
The minister informed the members that the government has taken all necessary steps to bring back the general situation in the Northeast State.
However, he admitted that 260 people lost their lives in Manipur in the caste struggle, he said that most of the people were killed in the first week of violence.
He said that for a peaceful solution, there was talks with both Mitei and Cookie with communities.
Mr. Shah also attacked the opposition to “politicize” violence and said that similar incidents took place in the state during the Congress rule, when no Prime Minister visited the state.
