Reconstruction and Conservation, Manipur Meitei and Thadou groups called for unity, slam cookie domination

The Thaudu tribe of Manipur and five civilians of the Metei community have agreed to work on the 10-point scheme to bring peace and to protect the regional integrity of the state bordering Myanmar.

They agreed to welcome any step to the National Register of Citizens (NRC) exercises to detect and deport illegal immigrants, and to press with their demand to remove ‘any cookie tribes’ from the list of Scheduled Tribes.

Civil Society organizations decided to “unconstitutional and vague ethnic identity to ask any cookie tribes (AKT) to remove Manipur from the Scheduled Tribes list.”

The joint statement said, “This unclear ethnic identity is being exploited by illegal immigrants to achieve the status of unwanted Scheduled Tribes, propagating a dangerous ideology of ‘cookie domination’ which endangers communal unity in Manipur and is a direct threat to national security,” Joint statement says.

“AKT was incorrectly included in Manipur’s Scheduled Tribes list due to political reasons in 2003, resulting in an important influx of illegal migrants in Manipur and their graduation and naturalization facilities. From Meitei side, this statement was signed by Meitei Heritage Society, Ningols United Progressive Initiative, and Delhi Manipuri Society. The Thaudu tribe was represented by the Thaudu Students Association, Thaudu Students Association.

Manipur peace day

The Thadau Students Association said that they will see May 3 as Manipur Peace Day.

He said, “He has misused the Treaty of Suu to terrorize and torture the nominated indigenous people to carry forward his opposing agenda. Unanimously resolve to cancel Suu,” he said.

The joint statement appealed to indigenous communities in Manipur to work towards long-term peace on the basis of mutual respect, creative dialogue and justice, recognition and co-existence.

Cookie tribes and mathis have been fighting many issues such as land rights and political representation since May 2023.

More than 260 have died in violence and approximately 50,000 have been displaced internally.
