Kollam:
During a music concert in a temple managed by the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) in Kottukkal, the rendering of RSS “Gun Gatham” (prayer song) has been provoked by a line, in which the opposition Congress has demanded strict action.
The song was allegedly performed by members of a professional music troupe during a ‘Gan Mela’ (musical concert) held at the temple in the early hours of Sunday.
According to the police, RSS flags were built in the temple premises regarding the festival.
Leader of the opposition VD Satheson said that the singing of ‘RSS Gunagatham’ was a serious concern “and urged TDB to take immediate and strict action against those responsible during a temple festival.
He said that there was a violation in a temple managed by TDB, despite the decision of a High Court that temples should not be used as places for political events, he said in a statement.
“The Devaswom Board and the government should be prepared to work immediately and strongly against those involved,” Sathasan said.
Given that the temple belongs to devotees, he said, “The politicization of the temple complex and festivals reflects a narrow-minded approach” and is said to be rapidly corrective action.
Meanwhile, Kadakkal police said they have received a complaint from a member of the temple advisory committee, although a case has not been registered yet.
The incident falls on the heels of another controversy at the boundaries of the same police station, where the “revolutionary song” was allegedly sung during a recent temple festival, praising CPI (M).
