New Delhi:

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar responded to the comments of US Secretary Marco Rubio on the extradition of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, the mastermind Tavavur Hussain Rana called Vikas a “a big step” in giving justice to the victims and their families.

Rana, a 64-year-old Pakistan-born Canadian National, was in judicial custody in the US before proceedings under the Indo-American extradition treaty, started sending him to India.

Shri Jaishankar said in a post on X, “Appreciate anti-terrorism cooperation between our two countries. This is actually a big step to ensure justice for the victims of 26/11 attacks.”

Earlier today, Mr. Rubio accepted India’s strong efforts to take justice for those killed in 26/11 terror attacks.

We extradited Tahwur Hussain Rana to India to face allegations for his role in planning a 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. Together, with India, we have long sought justice for 166 people, including 6 Americans, who lost their lives in these attacks. I am glad that the day has come, “Mr. Rubio said in a post on X.

Rana came through extradition when Rana abolished all legal options against his extradition. Indian intelligence agencies worked together with US officials to take the matter to its successful conclusion after continuous and concrete efforts to judge the major conspirators behind the 2008 terror attacks.

Mr. Rubio and Shri Jaishankar also spoke over the phone on 7 April, confirmed the strength of the Indo-American strategic partnership and discussed opportunities to deepen cooperation in the Indo-Pacific sector.

Soon after Rana landed in Delhi, US State Department spokesman Tammy Bruce said Washington “extradited Rana to face justice for his role in planning” horrific 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks “.

The spokesperson told reporters on Friday, “The United States has long supported India’s efforts to bring those responsible for these attacks to justice, and as President Trump said, the United States and India will continue to work together to combat the global crisis of terrorism.”

The US Department of Justice also issued a statement, stating that Rana – a convicted terrorist – has been accused with several crimes in India.

The US said the 2008 Mumbai attacks were “the most frightening and destructive in the history of India”.
