New Delhi:

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar spoke to US State Secretary Marco Rubio on Thursday night and told him that India would strongly compete with any attempt to increase the situation by Pakistan.

After the phone conversation, Mr. Jaishankar measured the response to India’s target and cross -border terrorism.

Mr. Jaishankar said in a social media post, “Talked with us this evening with @Secrubio. Appreciate American commitment deeply to work with India in the fight against terrorism.”

He said, “India’s target and measured response to cross-border terrorism was outlined. Any attempt on the increase,” he said.

The phone conversation took place in the form of tension between India and Pakistan, which increased considerably after an unsuccessful attempt after Pakistan after attacking India’s Operation Sindoor and 15 Indian cities in the early hours of Wednesday.

US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said Rubio stressed the need for immediate de-escation.

He said, “He expressed American support for direct talks between India and Pakistan and encouraged continuous efforts to improve communication,” he said.

Bruce said, “The secretary reiterated his condolences to the terrible terrorist attack in Pahalgam and confirmed the United States commitment to work with India in the fight against terrorism,” Bruce said.
