Samsung was recently given a design patent for a rolling smartphone by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The patent includes the description of the design of the handset, and we can expect it to be made as a compact phone that extends vertically to create a large screen. It can be equipped with a dual rear camera setup that moves along the upper part of the smartphone. Other OEMs such as Oppo and Motorola are also developing ‘sliding’ phones with extendable or rollable display, while an earlier report suggested that Samsung may launch a rollable phone in 2025.

The company is rumored to work on the handset with a rolling display Since 2019And the patent document takes us a look at what a vertical roll -rolled smartphone can look from Samsung.
The design shows Fig 2 and Fig 3 in the patent in front of and back of the alleged vertical rollable phone. The design suggests that the handset can be quite compact while it is folded. We can see the part of the handset that is expected to expand to the top of the rear panels in figures 4 and 5, and contains two cameras and an LED flash.
Fig. 8 shows us the design from another angle. The phone appears to be slim bezels along the top, left and right edges, while the chin is quite large. It is likely to be thicker than other Samsung phones due to roll -based mechanisms.
The patent document includes no details about the specifications of the smartphone, but we can guess that it will reach as a premium smartphone, such as the Galaxy Z Flip and the Galaxy Z fold series. These phones are usually equipped with a high-end chip similar to the Galaxy S series lineup which are launched early in the year.
Samsung has already shown a prototype of its rollable phone, which is spread horizontally. While the company must have already discovered how to make a phone with a rollable display, it remains to be seen whether a vertical roll -to -roll phone is commercially viable. As with all patents, it remains to be seen whether Samsung has launched a commercial version of the device seen in the document.
