Shashi Tharoor of Congress criticized Kerala’s Rs 10 crore assistance in Turkey after the 2023 earthquake, cited his support for Pakistan against India. John Britis of CPM defends Turkey to the central government’s aid and defended the state

Shashi Tharoor of the Congress, who is also a part of the International Outreach of the Center on Operation Sindoor, has slammed the Kerala government with the help of Turkey during the 2023 earthquake, which indicates the support of Ankara to Islamabad in a stand-off against India.

Posting a news item about Kerala’s assistance of Rs 10 crore in Turkey on X, Mr. Tharoor said that the Left Democratic Front Government should “reflect on its wrong generosity”.

“I hope the Kerala government reflects its wrong generosity after seeing Turkish behavior after two years! Not to mention that the people of Wayanad (just to take a Kerala example) could use those ten crores,” their post read.

John Britis of CPM immediately responded, saying why Mr. Tharoor was questioning Kerala when the central government helped Turkey and blamed it for “selective forgetting disease”.
“Shashi is a great relationship for Tharoor. But these comments are symptoms of selective forgetting disease,” read by his post.

His post read, “It is as entertaining as it is very happy why he had to reduce Kerala, when he knows very well that the Modi government launched Operation Dust to help Turkey. It is unfair to cursing Kerala.”

There was a public sentiment against the Mediterranean nation after Türkiye’s assistance in Pakistan in a four -day armed struggle with India. The Civil Society has immediately left it as a favorite tourist destination, the Trader Association boycotted Turkish goods and the Turkish forms working in India have been excluded from the commission.
