“Some social media affecting India is working against: House Panel to Center

New Delhi:

A Parliament panel has sought details from the Center about the action taken against some social media affected and platforms about “working against the interest of the country” after the terrorist attack in Pahgam in Jammu and Kashmir on 22 April.

“Some social media affecting and the social media platforms of the country are working against the interest of the country, which is likely to incite violence,” the Standing Committee of Parliament on Information Technology wrote on information technology and information technology to the Ministries and Electronics and Information Technology.

The panel has requested the ministries to take action taken to ban such platforms and IT Act 2000 and Information Technology (Mediator Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 “.

The letter has been sent to the secretaries of two ministries, who have been asked to submit information by 8 May.

Terrorists killed 26 people in the most deadly attack on citizens in recent times, in the popular Besaran Valley of Pahalgam. India blamed Pakistan for the attack, an allegation denied by Islamabad.

After the attack, the government launched a widespread crack on social media, allegedly prohibited from spreading “stimulating” materials on more than a dozen Pakistani YouTube channels.

The restricted platforms include Pakistani News Outlets YouTube channel Don, Sama TV, Arya News, Bol News, Rafatar, Geo News and Sano News.

Last week, sites in India were blocked, with a message reading it was due to “order from the government related to national security or public order”.

In a advisor, the Ministry of Information asked journalists and social media users to use “excessive responsibility” while reporting cases related to “defense and other security related operations”.
